Founder, Chairperson and CEO
Irit Oren Gundars is a social activist, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and founder and chairperson of the Or L'mishpachot Association. She is an expert in bereavement support, with a focus on bereavement related to fallen IDF soldiers in Israel. She has received several prestigious awards: the President of Israel's Volunteer Award (2013), the Social Excellence Award from the Israel-Sderot Conference for Society (2018), the Paul Harris Award for Community Contribution (2019), and the Begin Prize for Contribution to the Nation of Israel (2022).

Irit envisioned and pioneered a unique and groundbreaking approach to coping with loss and military bereavement. She established systems of rehabilitation, empowerment, and resilience for parents who lost children during IDF service. Her approach is based on academic research and practical activity in the field of positive psychology, resulting in a structured methodology that helps bereaved families build meaningful lives alongside grief and memory.
One of her most renowned initiatives is the "Ray of Light for New Life" project, which supports bereaved parents during fresh grief with innovative tools for having another child. She also leads legislative work with Israeli government and legal bodies to promote the “Continuity Law”, which would allow bereaved parents to use posthumous sperm retrieval to bring a child into the world — continuing the family line.

Irit: “During my military service, I met parents who had lost their children while serving in the IDF. I visited these families during their most difficult moments—extraordinary families facing unimaginable heartbreak. The realization that there are so many mothers and fathers who wait in vain for sons and daughters who will never return struck me deeply and touched my soul.
I felt a strong need to comfort and uplift them, to offer support and care. I wanted to make a difference. In the summer of 2006, I hosted the first gathering for bereaved families in my home, out of a heartfelt desire to bring them together with love".
Irit Oren Gunders נולדה בפתח תקווה למשפחת אפרים, אחות צעירה לחמישה אחים. בוגרת בית הספר "עין גנים". מגיל צעיר גילתה כישורים חברתיים ופעלה במנעד תחומים במקביל: חונכת במחנות עולים, רקדנית בלהקת ריקודי עם של פתח תקוה, מתעמלת בנבחרת התעלמות מכשירים, למדה ולימדה פסנתר. כבר בגיל 16 קיבלה תעודת הערכה מראש עריית פתח תקווה בגין התנדבות לטובת אוכלוסיות מתקשות של העיר.
לדבריה, ירשה עירית את יצר ההתנדבות ופיתחה את הכלים החברתיים בזכות דמות אביה- נור (אור) אפרים. לימים, היוותה דמות כגורם מעצב עיקרי של עירית בשנותיה הבוגרות, בשאיפותיה לפעילות חברתית, התנדבותית ופילנטרופית. האב היה השראה ומודל לחיקוי ועל שמו נוצר שם העמותה.
בזמן מלחמת ששת הימים ומיד אחריה עסקה עירית בפעילות התנדבותית רבה – אריזת חבילות לטובת חיילי צה"ל הפצועים.
בשנות לימודיה בתיכון פעלה במועצת התלמידים של תיכון בן גוריון בפתח תקוה, בין היתר בתפקיד יושבת ראש המועצה, במקביל עבדה כמאמנת התעמלות מכשירי קרקע של הפועל פתח תקוה, התקבלה ללימודי עתודה במכון וינגייט שם השלימה הסמכה של מורה בכירה.
בשנת 1981 התגייסה לצה"ל בתפקידי סמל כושר קרבי, מדריכת קליעה, מדריכה בבית הספר לטיסה. זכתה בפרס הרמטכ"ל במסגרת אליפות צה"ל בירי אחרי מאמץ.
עירית בצעה קורס קציני אימון גופני של חיל האוויר ובכך פרצה את תקרת הזכוכית בתפקיד שלפני כן לא היה מיועד לנשים.
בין השנים 1982 – 2006 ביצעה שורה ארוכה של תפקידי פיקוד ומשאבי אנוש ביחידות השונות. בתפקיד האחרון שימשה כקצינת המנהלה של נספחות צה"ל בסינגפור. פרשה מצה"ל בדרגת סגן-אלוף.
בין השנים 2006 – 2007 ניהלה את "Irit 4 good life" – חברה המתמחה בתכנון, ארגון וניהול אירועים ובעיצוב תדמית.
