Or L'Mishpachot (Light for the Families) is an organization dedicated to honoring bereaved parents who have lost their children in Israel’s military and defense operations. It was founded out of a deep sense of solidarity and compassion for the pain and grief that are not only personal, but national. .We provide a supportive community built on mutual care, within an atmosphere of optimism, strength, and encouragement—empowering parents to regain resilience, rebuild their lives, and choose life. The organization was established in 2008 by Irit Oren Gundars, a retired IDF Lieutenant Colonel and former Head of the Human Resources Branch in the Combat Engineering Corps. Irit, who serves as Chair and CEO of the organization, considers Or L'Mishpachot her life’s mission. She leads the association tirelessly and entirely on a volunteer basis from her home in Israel.

Irit: “During my military service, I met parents who had lost their children while serving in the IDF. I visited these families during their most difficult moments—extraordinary families facing unimaginable heartbreak. The realization that there are so many mothers and fathers who wait in vain for sons and daughters who will never return struck me deeply and touched my soul.
I felt a strong need to comfort and uplift them, to offer support and care. I wanted to make a difference. In the summer of 2006, I hosted the first gathering for bereaved families in my home, out of a heartfelt desire to bring them together with love".

הפרס היוקרתי ביותר של מדינת ישראל לעמותת אור למשפחות ולמייסדת ויו"ר העמותה, עירית אורן גונדרס על מפעל חיים.
הבחירה באור למשפחות היא הכרה עמוקה בחשיבותה הלאומית של העשייה שלנו, המוקדשת כולה לחיזוקן, ליוויין וחיבוקן של משפחות שכולות, שבניהן ובנותיהן, גיבורי ישראל, נפלו במערכות ישראל.
במשך שנים אנו פועלים ללא לאות כדי להעניק לאבות, לאימהות ולאחים את הכוח לבחור בחיים גם מתוך השכול הכבד. זכייה זו היא הוקרה למפעל החיים של עירית, אך לא פחות מכך, היא הוקרה למשפחות היקרות, שמגלות יום־יום חוסן, גבורה והשראה שאין להם שיעור.
הפרס הזה שייך לכל מי שצועד איתנו בדרך: למשפחות, לשותפים, לתורמים, למתנדבים, לתומכים ולכל מי שמאמין בשליחות שלנו. הוא מבטא הכרה ביכולת ליצור קהילה תומכת, מחבקת ומלאת אור, הרואה בכל משפחה עולם ומלואו.
הפעילות שלנו מהמשלחות המעצימים, דרך ערבי התרבות והמפגשים המרגשים, ועד הליווי האישי והתמיכה לאורך כל השנה, נועדה להזכיר לכל משפחה שהיא אינה לבד. פרס ישראל הוא תעודת כבוד לכל מי ששותף למסע הזה, וסמל להערכה עמוקה של מדינת ישראל לעשייה חברתית הנוגעת באלפי בתים ולבבות.
